Snežana Brkić, Ph.D. Full Professor

 

She was born in Šid  in 1961. Graduated from Novi Sad Faculty of Law in 1984. She earned her LL.M. degree from the same Law Faculty in 1992 with thesis entitled, “Principles of Legality and Opportunity in Criminal Prosecution” for which she received distinctions. In 1999, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation entitled, “Rationalization of Criminal Procedure and Simple Procedural Forms” at Novi Sad Faculty of Law. Her dissertation was graded with the highest distinction. In 1986, she started working at this Faculty as an assistant-trainee and was promoted to assistant in 1989, 1993 and 1997. After that, she was promoted to the position of assistant professor in 2000, in 2006. to associate professor and in 2011 to full professor. She teaches Criminal Procedure I and Criminal Procedure II, at general legal studies (undergraduate), as well as Criminalistic psychology at internal affairs studies (undergraduate) at Novi Sad Faculty of Law. She also teaches Psychology of Statements in Criminal Procedure amd Center for social work in criminal proceedings at master studies, as well as Criminal Procedure – Special Criminal Procedures at the doctoral studies in public law.

She paid a visit to Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology in Vienna in 1989.

She was a member of the working group for the drafting of the Federal Code of Criminal Procedure in 2001, as well as Chairperson of the working group for the drafting of the amendments to the Serbian Criminal Procedure Code (2004). She was Chairperson of the working group for the harmonization of the Law on Organization and Jurisdiction of State Bodies in the Prevention of Organized Crime and the Law on Organization and Jurisdiction of State Bodies in the Proceedings against Perpetrators of War Crimes (August-September 2004) with the Code of Criminal Procedure.
She was a national reporter at XVIII International Congresses on Comparative Law in Washinton 2010 (section Vb. Criminal Procedure)

Areas of her academic and professional interest: procedural principles, simplified procedural forms, witness protection, comparative criminal procedure, psychology of criminal procedure.

Professor Snežana Brkić has published 5 books and around 150 academic and professional papers.
